Book Fest

Read up for the city of eight

THE city of Lincoln is to host its eighth annual book festival next week with a top line-up of authors, poets, comedians – and even the odd politician.

Festival patron, and former Poet Laureate 1999-2009, Andrew Motion will perform at the city’s Drill Hall, while other featured artists include: Brian Patten, Attila the Stockbroker, Ian McMillan, and authors Val McDermid, Sophie Hannah and Margaret Dickinson. The writers and poets will host talks as well as presenting aspects of their writing to festival visitors.

The festival also features a day dedicated to encouraging a love of words amongst children with the Children’s Fest Day. This will feature such authors as Michael Cox, Jonathan Stroud, Cathy Watts, Alex Bell and Cathy Brett.

“There is no doubt that the Lincoln Book Festival has become a must-attend event at venues throughout the historic city of Lincoln since its inception in 2004,” said a spokesperson.

“The festival has attracted local, national and international writers and artists who celebrate both historical and contemporary works of art spanning from Lincolnshire’s past with Magna Carta and Tennyson to new writing. This richness has ensured the public have access to a wide range of authors and experiences and helps them to engage with reading and writing in many non-traditional ways.”
